Prisoners in viral video with improvised weapons to face new charges

Three prisoners who posed with improvised weapons and video recorded themselves inside the Lusignan jailhouse, will now face new charges, according to the Director of Prisons, Gladwin Samuels.

The video of the prisoners surfaced on social media earlier this week after one of them reportedly sent it out to someone.

In the video, the prisoners could be seen and heard making threats.

In a statement last evening, the Prison Director said all three prisoners were identified and the weapons and the phone used to make the recording have all been seized.

He explained that two of the prisoners are convicts who are serving their sentences while the third prisoner is on remand.

The embarrassing video was released just days after the Joint Services carried out a raid of the prison and unearthed a number of contraband items, including marijuana and improvised weapons and cellphones.
