Retired Major General of the Guyana Defence Force Norman McLean has been elected as the new Chairman of the Private Sector Commission. He will serve for the next year.
The PSC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held yesterday where McLean was elected, unopposed, along with a new Executive.
He has replaced Ramesh Persaud who served as Chairman of the Private Sector Commission for the term 2014/2015.
Longtime business executive, Edward Boyer was re-elected as Vice-Chairman while Ramesh Dookhoo was returned as Secretary and Fitzroy McLeod was elected to the position of Treasurer.
Persaud now joins a long list of distinguished past Chairpersons.
‘In a facebook post Persaud congratulated the new PSC Chairman and said it was nothing short of an honour to serve in the capacity. “Special thanks to all those who provided their support and assistance in making the term successful,” he added.
McLean could not be reached for a comment on his election.
In May, he was elected President of the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA). McLean also served in the past as President of the Guyana Manufacturers Association (GMA) during the 1990s.
And he also served as Company Secretary of the Bosai Bauxite Mining Company. He boasts considerable experience in human resources development and operations management.
In recent years, McLean worked along with the Omai Gold Mines and later worked as a Consultant with the ETK Sand Springs, an expatriate gold and mineral mining company which is looking to start operations in Guyana.
