Rubis recommits to supporting community projects in Guyana as it celebrates 5th Anniversary

Petroleum and aviation fuel distributor, RUBIS, is celebrating five years of service to the Guyana market and the Eastern Caribbean.

On Thursday, the company recommitted its support to community projects and Guyana’s development.

RUBIS’ Chief Executive Officer, Mauricio Nicholis, told a celebration reception that the company has always had a strong commitment to local communities in which it operates as part of its corporate social responsibility.

He said that commitment will continue.

Guyana’s Minister of Business, Dominic Gaskin was on hand at the anniversary cocktail reception to receive the commitment on behalf of the government.

As recent as 2015, RUBIS donated tool sets to the Guyana Technical Institute and refurbished two workshops.

Technical training was also provided on the use of lubricants to the top graduating students of the Institute.

The company has also sponsored several sporting initiatives over the years, and earlier this year it donated a 25 seater boat to the government to ensure that students in rural communities have access to education.

Mr. Nicholis said while the company has accomplished quite a bit since 2011, its proudest achievement is the relationship it was able to build and the company culture that has been created.

“In a short span of five years we have built strong, collaborative relationships across the board including our customers, our suppliers, our business partners, the media and the governments of the countries in which we operate. We are very proud of the relationships we have built,” he added.

Minister Gaskin said he hopes that RUBIS’ service to Guyana will not be short-lived as he extended congratulations on behalf of the government. He spoke of the country’s preparation to become an oil producing nation and hopes that RUBIS will in time be a supporting partner to the government.

Mr. Gaskin said while government has its work to do, the private sector will also need to support the transition and he welcomed RUBIS’ move to increase its storage capacity.

The French based company acquired the Texaco assets in 2011 which made it a formidable competitor in the downstream petroleum market both in Guyana and the region.

RUBIS prides itself as one of the leading supplier of premium aviation fuels, supplying high jet fuel and aviation gasoline at 17 regional airports.

The Company has a compliment of 33 employees in Guyana of which 25 are based at the Ramsburg Terminal and 8 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport Airfield Facility.

It manages a network of eight service stations across the country and also provides Rubis cooking gas to customers through its distributor DOCOL.
