Three young children died tragically on Saturday in a river accident in Region Nine, according to Police sources in the area.
The three children, ages 12, 3 and 1, were passengers of a small boat that was traversing a part of the Essequibo river in Region Nine when the boat reportedly hit a large rock in the river and broke apart.
Reports are that the adults who were in the boat including the operator, attempted to save the children but were unable to do so, as they were swept under the water. Their bodies have since been recovered.
The tragedy has shocked the Upper Takatu/Upper Essequibo community and a Police investigation has been launched.
