Trinidad oil company wants to develop business relations with energy companies in Guyana
Trinidad and Tobago’s state oil company, Petrotrin, has reported that it is open to the possibility of developing business relations with fellow energy companies in Guyana
The announcement comes in wake of reports surrounding the feasibility of refining Guyanese crude at the company’s Pointea-Pierre Refinery in Trinidad.
The ExxonMobil Oil company has discovered large amounts of oil in Guyana. The company estimate that the discoveries may be well over two billion barrels.
Just last week, the Government of Guyana announced the hiring of a special consultant from the United States to examine the possibility of establishing oil refineries in Guyana to prepare for the oil production that will come.
The Petrotrin Company of Trinidad in its statement  said that it has accumulated significant experience and expertise in the refining business in the Caribbean as its Pointe-a-Pierre refinery this year celebrates its 100th anniversary.
According to the company, following the completion of the Gasoline Optimisation Programme at its Pointe-a-Pierre refinery in 2015, the refinery has resumed high throughput operations consistent with its capacity of 168,000 bpd. Petrotrin is currently engaged in the construction of an Ultra-Low Sulphur Diesel Plant to further improve the quality of products at the refinery.
“While Petrotrin is confident that it can explore several avenues for improved relations with the Guyanese energy industry, our capacity to process the crude discovered in the Stabroek Block can only be determined after the quality of this crude has been ascertained”, the company said.
Petrotrin has pointed out that it will continue discussions with the Government of Guyana.
The Guyana Government has turned to a number of oil producing nations for advice and information on how best it could take advantage of the developing oil and gas sector for the country.
