On Saturday and Sunday, the Ministry of Human Services will be hosting a signature event called “We Lift” in celebration of International Women’s Day which will will be observed on Monday.
The We Lift event is billed for the Arthur Chung Conference Centre and it seeks to empower women, according to Human Services Minister, Dr. Vindya Persaud during a 94.1FM radio interview this morning.
“We choose to confront various challenges facing women and we work in having more women in leadership roles. So, the event is focusing on the successes and strides women have made.” She explained.
Dr. Persaud said the event will also showcase what women are able to achieve outside of the workplace.
“So, when people come there, they will be able to interface and engage with a number of women who own their own businesses. So, we are celebrating what they have managed to achieve, women centric, women owned businesses and those women who would have gone through our cottage industry recently and emerge from there. The Minister said.
Additionally, it was revealed that several Foreign missions and NGOs will be part of the exhibition, highlighting issues which are faced by women daily. All of the Ministry’s services will also be available at the event.
The two-day event runs from 11:00am to 7:00pm and persons desirous of attending are asked to wear a face mask and follow all Covid-19 guidelines.
This year’s International Women’s Day observance is being held under the theme: Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a Covid-19 world.
