Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill is leading a team from the Ministry and collaborating with the Guyana Police Force to remove derelict vehicles from the Kitty railway embankment.
On Friday, Edghill returned to the area and expressed concern that the owner of Global Spare Parts and Auto sales continue to frustrate the Ministry’s efforts by repeatedly placing derelict vehicles and parts all along the parapets.
The Government is pushing to upgrade the carriageway, but the Minister in a live broadcast said those efforts have been repeatedly frustrated. He explained that the Ministry has cleared the area of derelict vehicles more than five times.
“What we have is the owner of this business bring two heavy-duty trucks and block the derelict vehicles preventing the contractors from doing their work. I have called the owner whop told me that he is not coming to move them and secondly, the senior person who is on site who wanted to engage me about giving them time have refused to move them. The government will have no choice but to impound these trucks and get on with its work,” Mr. Edghill said.

The Minister again made it clear that parapets do not belong to businesses and individuals, adding that the Government will not tolerate its roadworks being hampered by the illegal occupation of those spaces.
“This is an eyesore, it’s a hive for Criminal activity and its a total disrespect to all the other people who are living in the neighbourhood So, I am making the public aware from early, so when people like to spew their misinformation on the media, as I have said we are moving these vehicles today,” Edghill noted.
The Minister stated that other residents who have derelict vehicles and obstacles on the carriageway have been given notice to remove those vehicles so that the roadworks could continue.
He said for too long actions have not been taken against persons who continue to occupy government reserves. He said no longer will that be tolerated.
On Friday, Edghill brought out the Police and heavy duty equipment from his Ministry to remove the derelict vehicles and two heavy duty trucks that had been placed in the area to block the removal of those vehicles.
