City Mayor proposes January 15 deadline to remove vendors from outside City store in keeping with Court order

Vendors who operate on the pavement outside the Muneshwers Store on Water Street will likely have to pack up and remove from the area by the 15th January 2024.

The Georgetown City Council was recently ordered by the Court to remove all encumbrances from outside the store.

City Mayor Alfred Mentore met with the affected vendors today and said while the Court did not give a specific timeline, he is proposing the January 15, 2024 date, taking into account the upcoming holiday shopping season.

“The Court order itself did not speak of when you are supposed to move. The Court Order speaks of moving you and to make a decision, to get you move as a soon as possible time,” he said.

He said cognizant that the Christmas Season is swiftly approaching and investments already made by vendors, he approached Muneshwers company on the issue and the date.

“From what I have gotten and from the discussions I have had I am pretty sure that you vendors would be able to remain there at least up to January 15 or there about, so you can continue to sell and ply your trade,” he told the vendors.

Mayor Mentore said while the Town Clerk has already issued the vendors with notices to move in keeping with the order of the Court, the issue has to also be addressed by the full City Council.
