BREAKING: GDF Captain surrenders to Police after shooting girlfriend dead

According to reports, Captain Orwain Sandy walked in to the Police Station at Ruimveldt  after shooting the woman multiple times. The incident reportedly occurred after the two were involved in a heated argument. 

BREAKING:  GDF Captain surrenders to Police after shooting girlfriend dead

A Captain of the Guyana Defence Force who serves as a Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff surrendered to the Police this morning moments after he shot his girlfriend dead in Alexander village.

According to reports, Captain Orwain Sandy walked in to the Police Station at Ruimveldt  after shooting the woman multiple times. The incident reportedly occurred after the two were involved in a heated argument.

Persons in the Alexander village area said the two came out of the man’s car fighting and the man pulled out his weapon and fired several shots at her. Her body was left to the side of the road as he drove from the scene and straight to the nearby Police station, where he turned over his weapon and explained what he had done. He was immediately arrested.

News Source understands that the man’s wife, who he had separated from, has since turned up at the Police station after receiving news of the incident.

The incident has left members of the Guyana Defence Force shocked. Sandy had been awarded the best graduating student of the Officer’s Course when he completed that course a few years ago.  Two years ago, he graduated with from the University of Guyana with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology.

He was recently appointed as the Aide de Camp to the GDF Chief of Staff.

The Guyana Police Force says it is investigating the murder.

 

STATEMENT FROM GDF…

At approximately 1100 hours today (Saturday March 31, 2018) Captain Orwain Sandy of the Guyana Defence Force allegedly shot and killed his reputed wife in Alexander Village. He has since surrendered to the Guyana Police Force.

Captain Orwain Sandy is immediately interdicted from duties and the Guyana Defence Force has launched an inquiry into the incident.

The Force is truly saddened by this occurrence and would want to reassure the general populace that this is an isolated incident and is not reflective of the Values and Standards of the Guyana Defence Force.

The Chief of Staff has ordered the Inspector General of the Guyana Defence Force to conduct a Board of Inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident

The Guyana Defence Force extends sincerest condolences to the relatives of the late Reona Payne.
