Mahaica man busted with over 2lbs cocaine

CANU agents have arrested a 52-year-old man from Mahaica, East Coast Demerara after 2.7 pounds of cocaine was discovered at his house.

Acting on information received, CANU agents carried out an operation in the Belmont Squatting area in Mahaica on Thursday, and during the operation, the agents searched the premises owned and occupied by Suresh Persaud.

During the search, several packets of cocaine were found. The drug trafficking suspect was immediately arrested and taken to the CANU headquarters for questioning.

CANU said the cocaine carries a street value of $1.3 million. Investigations into the discovery are ongoing.

The Customs Anti Narcotics Unit continues to step up its drug eradication across the country.
