The 50-year-old Port Kaituma businessman who trapped his wife and four children in their home then set the house on fire, died early Friday morning at the Georgetown Hospital where he was undergoing treatment for severe burns to his body.
The man who was identified as Linus La Cruz was brought to the city from the interior location a few days after the March 14 murder of his wife and four children. It is believed that he died as a result of the burns to his body.
Throughout his stay at the Georgetown Hospital, he remained quiet and had not been cooperating with investigators. Police believe that the man set the house ablaze after stabbing his wife and locking the injured woman and the four children in one of the rooms.
A 5th child managed to escape earlier in the evening and was at a police station filing a complaint when the man reportedly carried out the murder.
He was severely burnt about his body.
