The Opposition People’s Progressive Party has written to the Police Commissioner and the Chairman of the Ethnic Relations Commission over statements made by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance at a public meeting in Bartica.

In the letters, PPP Executive Gail Teixeira said the government’s position of “no registration, no election”, should be cause for concern.

“These statements and declarations should no doubt also be cause for profound concern by Ethnic Relations Commission and the entire citizenry”, she wrote.

According to Teixeira, Minister Winston Jordan’s statement that “war break”, should be seen as inciting and a threat to public order and safety and are in contempt of the Caribbean Court of Justice rulings of June 18, 2019.

She said the ERC must carry out its mandate in addressing that particular issue.

In her letter to the Police Commissioner, Ms. Teixeira made similar complaints about some of the statements made at the Bartica meeting. She reminded the Police Commissioner, that he had called for calm in the lead up to March 21.

The former Member of Parliament said the statements are inciting and a threat to public order and safety. She made specific reference to the Prime Minister saying that he is putting on back his battle gear ahead of the next elections.

She wants the Police Force to look into her concerns.
