Three days after he was swept away by the strong current of a raging Orinduik waterfalls, the body of Guyanese NYPD Officer, Gladstone Haynes was discovered this morning.

Senior military officials confirmed that the man’s lifeless body was discovered by the teams including the Special Forces Unit, that were conducting searches since Monday.

The body is to be flown out of the area today.

Haynes was among a group of tourists who visited the Orinduik waterfalls site on Sunday in the company of an airline operator.

Eyewitnesses said he was stepping out into the water at the falls when he was suddenly swept away by the strong current of the Ireng river.

An alarm was raised, but search efforts at the time were futile.

The Special Forces Unit of the Guyana Defence Force joined the search operations on Monday and conducted both aerial and on the ground surveillance of the area.

His body was found a short distance away from where it vanished under the water.

The NYPD Officer Gladstone Haynes, is the son of popular Guyanese boutique owner, Claire Pires who operates the Clairans’ Store.

His death has renewed calls for safety signs and experienced tour guides to be posted at the popular tourist site.
