Alliance for Change Executive Member and former APNU+AFC Member of Parliament Devin Sears and another man, identified as 69-year-old Albert Sandy, were arrested on Monday evening with more than 650 pounds of marijuana in their possession.
In a statement, the Police said the bust took place at around 8:41pm on Monday at the Bamia Police check-point in Linden.
The Police statement explained that Police ranks were conducting random ‘stop and search’ of vehicles when they stopped a dark blue Toyota Hiace minibus, which was registered as the property of the Region #10 Tourism Committee Inc.
The vehicle was being driven by 39-year-old Devin Sears, with the only other occupant being 69-year-old farmer, Albert Sandy who lives in the Tacama Waterfront in the Upper Berbice River area.
The Police said when the vehicle was stopped, Sears, who was sweating profusely started to act in a suspicious manner and when he was questioned about what he was transporting, he allegedly told the Police that he was transporting “tourism plants”.
The Police said when a search of the vehicle was conducted, the ranks discovered twenty-two (22) bulky black plastic bags and four (4) large brown canvas bags inside the vehicle containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be Cannabis.

Both men were told of the offence, arrested, and cautioned.
According to the Police, Sears remained silent, while Albert admitted ownership, stating that the narcotics belonged to him and that he had paid Sears to transport him to Parika.
Both men were arrested and escorted to the Mackenzie Police Station along with the suspected Cannabis, which was weighed in their presence and amounted to 310.71 kilograms.
The two remain in custody as the investigation continues.
