Two employees of the National Data Management Authority have been dismissed after it was discovered that they had breached the online tint waiver application process and fraudulently used the signature of the Minister of Home Affairs to grant tint waiver permits to themselves and at least one other person.
Minister of Home Affairs Oneidge Walrond confirmed to News Source this afternoon that she is aware of incident. She indicated that charges will be filed against the two young men.
Minister Walrond explained that a strict auditing system at her Ministry was able to uncover the breach. She said the Ministry of Home Affairs had submitted the tint waiver application portal to the NDMA for security checks before it was launched.
The technical staff at the Ministry would carry out an audit every evening and the following morning of applications received and approvals granted. It was during one of the early morning audits that it was discovered that there were three additional tint waiver approvals than what had been granted the previous day. An investigation of those approvals led to the NDMA employees.
Minister Walrond said the breach is concerning as it undermined the integrity of the entire system. She said swift action was taken against the two young men, and criminal charges will be laid against them.
As part of the new tint regulations for vehicles which will take full effect from the 1st April 2026, persons could apply for a waiver for various reasons. That application is done online and the applicant would be updated on their application online too.
